Fresh Advice

Tony Harris and friends from ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ

Tony Harris (Applied Physics and Electronics, 1982, Grizedale) offers some words of wisdom to those students about to follow in his footsteps at Lancaster.

"I would like to give a little advice to Freshers starting out at ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ in October. That is to be very wary of anyone who says to you “Hello”. Think before you say “Hi” to someone who happens to be on your corridor. You may think it is an innocent greeting. Take heed, I tell you, take heed. You must understand the consequences.

I say this because, I started at ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ in October 1979 and six of the people I met on the first day at Grizedale college, I still spend time with today! One of them Jan Harris (nee Greenwood) is my wife. She was on the ¡®Girls’ corridor along with Alex Doyle (nee Quin ) and Karen Sweeney (nee Reed). And then there is Andrew (Ted) Heath, Graeme Uttley and Tim Beck.

We all graduated in ’82 with subjects ranging from Religious Studies, Geography, Economics, History, Operational Research and Physics. The collegiate system at Lancaster provides for a wonderful mix of ideas and talents to meld together. We have had many ¡®reunions’ since then. We have met several times in Rochester NY, in Boulder CO, in San Diego Ca and back at ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ in 2019; 40 years after we all started there.Tony Harris and friends in 2019
