Sowing the seeds

Child planting into a tyre allotment

A green revolution is underway in a small corner of ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ Pre-School Centre, nestled on the veranda at the rear of the building. In April, the children and teachers embarked on an exciting project: creating their very own allotment. Armed with enthusiasm, they transformed old containers and tyres into fertile beds for a diverse array of crops.

So far, the children have grown strawberries, carrots, garlic, potatoes, peas, runner beans, beetroot, courgettes, tomatoes, and various herbs.

Beyond the practical skills of planting and tending, the Pre-School allotment teaches patience, responsibility, and wonder. Joanne Daly, the Pre-School Centre Deputy Manager said “The children are very responsible and take it in turns to look after the allotment. They have learnt about composting, recycling old materials and growth.”
